These stereotypes about the age difference prevail in the society. In the common households, we don't witness many woman marrying younger men than them. The groom's family always looks for girls younger than the boy and the society has perpetuated this for centuries. In fact parents too raise girls to marry boys taller than them, and older than them. In special cases, sometimes, if the wife is slightly elder than the husband, her age is hidden from people and relatives. This is primarily because they do not find such marriages "appropriate".
