Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi release date has been pushed again from January 7, 2022, to February 25, 2022, due to clashes with SS Rajamouli’s RRR. The biopic features actor Alia Bhatt in the lead role of a brothel madam Gangu. Bhatt’s fans have been eagerly waiting for the movie to hit screens in great anticipation.
Rescheduled to be released on February 25, 2022, the audience have been waiting for Gangubai Kathiawadi since July 2021. The release had been delayed first due to COVID-19 and recently the movie has been rescheduled again due to clashes with SS Rajamouli production RRR.

Gangubai is also known to have close relations with the third don of Mumbai, Karim Lala, who treated her like a sister.

The movie is loosely based on the incidents reported in the non-fiction crime novel Mafia Queens of Mumbai by Hussain Zaidi on the character of Gangubai Kathewadi. According to Zaidi, Gangubai was known to never have forced a girl into prostitution. The book Mafia Queens of Mumbai gives an insight into the lives of 13 real-life women who were involved in criminal activities in Mumbai.
