Why We Miss School Days : A Spotlight on Period of Pride

For most women, periods are a part of a very distinct set of memories when it comes to our school lives. Just as school is all about growing up and preparing for our adult lives, periods mark our journey in womanhood. However, this journey does not make up for a fond memory for many girls. Did you know that 1 out 5 girls in India miss out on school completely after getting her 1st period, due to lack of awareness?

To create awareness regarding the importance of ensuring availability of period hygiene to all Indian girls, we spoke social media influencers, who shared some of their most cherished memories from their school lives.

Neelakshi a body positivity blogger who goes by the handle @plumptopretty on social media, credited her close school friends and teachers for helping her build self-confidence. "They've always had my back." When asked about her fondest school memories she said, "opening our lunch boxes in second periods because recess me abhi kafi time ha, class sections ke beech me competitions, school functions..."

Journalist turned blogger Shubhreet Kaur credit her school life for developing her interest in writing, presenting and sharing everything she knew, "It all started there and laid the foundation of my future career."

Style coach and content creator Aiana Jain reveals that she had to attend night schools and switch them continuously due to the nature of her father's job. However, she credited her teachers for shaping her personality. She says her English teacher always motivated her to think outside the box and because of her she never had to deal with the pressure of fitting in or follow anyone's tracks.
