The next maverick in the list is Shweta Ratanpura, the first Indian woman to win a bronze medal at the 45th WorldSkills competition 2019 held in Kazan, Russia.

WorldSkills Kazan 2019 and India

The 45th WorldSkills competition was held at KAZAN EXPO International Exhibition Centre from 22-27 August 2019. The competition is held once in every two years and inspires young competitors to attain new heights and turn their passion into profession. This year, it had 1354 young participants from 63 different countries for 56 different skills. India with 48 participants was given the 13th position among other countries.

According to the website of the Worldskills India, “As part of Skill India mission, WorldSkills India is an initiative of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the aegis of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India. NSDC, through its WorldSkills India initiative, has been leading the country's participation at WorldSkills International competitions since 2011.”

The competition is held once in every two years and inspires young competitors to attain new heights and turn their passion into profession.

Originally from Maharashtra, Shweta Ratanpura has created history by becoming the first-ever Indian woman candidate to win a bronze at WorldSkills of 2019. She has won the medal in the graphic design category. With this India in total has won 19 medals at the competition, one gold, one silver, two bronze, and 15 medals of excellence.

S Aswatha Narayana from Odisha won a gold medal in water technology, Pranav Nutalapati from Karnataka won a silver medal in web technologies while Sanjoy Pramanik from West Bengal won the second bronze medal in jewellery.

Skills development ministry said, “Blazing a trail of glory for India at the global stage, the 48-member Indian team returned with the best-ever finish at the WorldSkills International Competition 2019 in Kazan, Russia by winning 19 medals and medallions of excellence.”

“With this historic triumph, Team India won hearts and set a new standard of skilling on the world stage."

Another official statement said, “With this historic triumph, Team India won hearts and set a new standard of skilling on the world stage. India finished 13th in the overall standings several notches up from the last time when it won 11 medals and finished in the 19th position at Abu Dhabi in 2017.”
