Sanitation worker cracks Civil Service Exam: Here's her story
When Asha Kandara got the job of a sanitation worker, she took it because she believes no work to be menial. Talking to NDTV, Kandara said in an interview with NDTV, "I got the job on July 7, 2019. I joined because no job is prestigious or derogatory. I used to study after my work hours. I sacrificed my nights, my sleep but studied and worked hard and the result is in front of you." She continued, "If people throw stones at you, collect the stones, make a bride out of it, climb it and move ahead. I believe if I can do it, anyone can."
Kandara's father retired from the post of an accountant in HCI. Though he is a man from an underprivileged background, he is educated and has always taught his children the value of education. "My father is very educated so he understands the value of education. He has taught us to study, work hard and move ahead. I have chosen administrative service to help others, people or sisters who are like me," said Kandara. "There are many children who do not want to study. I want to request them to not quit studies. They should study because education is the only way that opens several doors for you."
Kandara appeared in the Safai Karamchari exams in 2018. In the same year, she cleared her RAS pre exams and started her preparation for the mains. The results of the RAS mains exams were announced on July 14. She was delighted to see her name in the merit list. Talking to the media, she said, "When I got selected in RAS on Tuesday, my happiness knew no bounds." Click here for more.
