Preksha Thakker recalls the first time she bumped into Vira - a classmate who later became her best friend -how distance really did bring them closer, why she travelled all the way to London to reunite with her, and why female friendships empower like no other.
Preksha and Vira Friendship Story
“Vira and I first met in junior college, where she became my very first friend. As I walked into the classroom, her smile stood out among the crowd, radiating warmth and welcoming me with open arms. It was clear to me that she was someone special. What bonded us, even more, was our shared passion for a creative career path. Our similar aspirations brought us closer together, and we became better friends because of it.
There was a period when we grew apart, as Vira pursued her college education for her graduation. Although I missed my friend during that time, I was genuinely happy to see her chasing her dreams. Our paths eventually crossed again when I joined a college in Pune to pursue a diploma.
One of the things I admire most about Vira is her unwavering determination. She has always been a person full of vibrant plans and has the ability to set her mind on something and achieve it. She possesses wisdom beyond her years, knows her priorities well and is rich in knowledge.
While Vira was making great strides in her own life, I found love and made the decision to get married. Unfortunately, it was around the same time that Vira received an admission letter to a prestigious college in London. The realisation struck both of us that she might not be able to attend my wedding.
In that moment, I made a firm decision that if she couldn’t come to me, I would go and see her. I discussed the idea with my husband, and we decided to surprise her by flying to. Throughout the process, I remained in constant contact with one of her friends who was living there, as I eagerly awaited the chance to meet Vira as soon as possible.
Her friend eventually informed me that Vira was on a research trip to the Tate Modern Art Museum, and I knew that was where we had to meet. It was my husband who first spotted her, and I quietly positioned myself behind her, nodding along with whatever she was discussing. When she turned around, she was in complete shock.
Since 2014, we have been friends, and time has flown by in an instant. Vira is the one person with whom I can freely discuss anything, and that will never change. Our friendship remains steadfast and unbreakable.”
