Arshdeep Singh, a 23-year-old cricketer who plays for Punjab Kings has finally earned a place in the Indian National Cricket Team. Arshdeep Singh whose story as a cricketer began back when he was a 7-year-old boy, bowling for the first time in front of his father Darshan Singh, is beaming with pride. Arshdeep Singh's parents Baljeet Kaur and Darshan Singh have reportedly been his biggest support system. "It will sink in slowly" the cricketer mentions, and rightly so, as this moment happens to be one of the biggest milestones in any cricketer's life.

Arshdeep who always calls his mother Baljeet prior to every match reportedly called her on Sunday evening, June 5, before his IPL match against Hyderabad and broke the news. Baljeet Kaur was reportedly performing her evening prayers when she received this call. Talking about this milestone moment for her son, she revealed “Arshdeep calls me prior to every match and did so this evening as I was doing a path. He told me, ‘Mom, wadhai howe, I have been selected for the Indian team.’ I could not hold my tears and it was when his teammates joined the call and started doing the bhangra in the team bus that I realized how big the moment it is for Arshdeep. He never tires and the only thing he would ask me is to massage him after his training sessions.”

More on Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh's parents have played a huge role in making him the cricketer he is today. Reportedly at the young age of 7 years, Darshan Singh who is a security officer noticed his son bowling inswing at a park, near their Kharar residence. Recognising his potential, his father then encourages his skill and got him enrolled under coach Jaswant Rai in Chandigarh.

The highlight of this story is that of his mother, Baljeet Kaur, who took Arshdeep to his practice, cycling 13 km, all the way from Kharar to Chandigarh everyday, and waited until he finished practising. Beaming with pride, his mother said, "It has been a tough journey for him and to see him wearing the India cap will be the biggest joy for us.”

Arshdeep Singh, who is known for his yorkers, impressing everyone with his skills, especially during the death overs, has been named for the Indian cricket team alongside pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan, and Umran Malik.

Post his selection his teammates in the Punjab Super Kings reportedly celebrated in the team bus and started doing Bhangra. Arshdeep's coach Jaswant Rai recalling his training period has stated- “When Arshdeep joined the academy, I was impressed with his ability to swing the ball. He had a high-arm action and his height too was good at that time. I remember that he would try to ball all the six balls in an over differently. He wasn’t accurate at that time but his ability to bowl inswing made me think that this guy can go far in his career,”

Darshan Singh, Arshdeep's father is confident in his sons skills and sportsmanship. Talking more about his selection into the Indian team he has stated- “One thing which he has made a habit of is not breaking his own rules. He would cycle to the academy no matter what and would only get a scooter when he turned 18. He won’t celebrate much till he is able to do his best for India in his maiden series and would spend time ahead of the series seeing his own videos to rectify any mistakes.”

His mother, supported him every step of the way, from cycling him to his practice sessions to staying until the end of it, every day, to treating him with a massage after every rigorous training session. It is rightly said a mother's love knows no bounds. Apart from being a cricketer's success story, this is also the story of his mother's grit and faith, and the ends she went to, the sacrifices she made, to see her son be the cricket star he is today.
