Amidst the bed time stories and talks about religion and rules, can a grandma teach you about sex? Well, yeah. Recently, a YouTube video went viral in which Avanti Nagral interviewed her 89-year-old grandma and asked her progressive comments on the importance of sex in life. The grandma who is a doctor spoke about the importance of consent in sex, the right age to do it, marital rape, and the necessity to break the taboo around buying condoms openly. In the ">video, Ajji said, “Sex is mostly for pleasure, the outcome is baby.” She also added that sexual feeling is unique to human beings and so they should know how to handle it. Moreover, talking about consent, Ajji said, “Consent is the first thing (of both the partners) but even after that you should think about the consequences.”
2. Grandma who deadlifts barefoot
When we think about weightlifting, the first thing that comes to mind is physical strength. You have to have a strong back and strong arms to deadlift. But can grandmas do it? Yes! Meet 83-year-old Kiran Bai who deadlifts barefoot and that too while donned in saree. Chennai’s Kiran Bai deadlifts three times a week after a short warm-up. Recently on her 83rd birthday, Bai stormed the internet with her video in which she was deadlifting 25kgs for two reps. Speaking about her willpower to overcome the dread of old age, Bai said, “I’m training because I want to do my daily activities without fear. To all my friends and visitors who look at me in awe, you too can do this provided you have the willpower,” she said.
3. Grandma who bowls a clean strike in a saree
What also caught my attention is the grandma who bowls a clean strike wearing a saree and mask. Recently, her video went viral on Twitter in which the granny was clad in a yellow saree and masked up and was bowling effortlessly to achieve a clean strike. Posted by her grandson, the video was a treat to the eyes and a boost to physical strength. The grandson captioned the video and wrote, “Hi Twitter, please appreciate my grandma bowling a strike in her saree, and then proceeding to ensure her mask covers her nose #QueenShit, if you ask me!”

In the last two years, we have all stuck our eyes to screen, thanks to the coronavirus lockdown. Most of us have jotted down our favourite YouTubers, vloggers and social media influencers. But do you have Milkuri Gangavva of Telangana on your list? A 58-year-old grandma with a YouTube channel named My Village Show with a whopping 1.58 million subscribers. Gangavva is a school dropout who couldn’t pursue her education beyond first grade. But despite that, she acted in Tollywood and now has taken the digital space by surprise through her humourous videos on social topics and feel-good videos in Telangana style. “I like being in front of the camera, I like acting. It’s nice to know that people from all over India are watching what I do,” the grandma YouTube sensation said.
5. Grandma who completed her PhD
Is there an age limit to pursue your education? Dr Usha Lodaya’s success says a form no. Vadodara's Lodaya is a 67-year-old grandma who completed her teenage dream of pursuing PhD on June 20, 2021. She always wanted to pursue a medical and a postdoctoral degree. But being married early, the former couldn’t be possible. But with her grit and determination, Lodaya succeeded in completing her PhD. I can now prefix Dr in my name. It took me almost 50 years to achieve something that I had aspired for when I was a teenager. Though not medical but I did get a doctorate degree,” she said.
6. Grandma who is became the Grandma Earth 2020
Meet 62-year-old Bengaluru resident Aarti B Chatlani who was crowned as Grandma Earth 2020 at Grandma Universe pageant held in Bulgaria. This is the only pageant that recognises and awards the grandmas for the responsibilities they have. Chatlani was the first Bengalurian to participate in the beauty pageant. She also performed a dance routine in the talent round of the pageant wearing lehenga and bridal jewelry to showcase national culture.
7. Three grandmas who took to the highway
Travelling is an adventure full of fun that most of us love. But how many of us think if our grandmas can go on solo trips or with their friends? Meet Delhi-based Neeru Gandhi (62)who backpacked with her friends Monicka Chanana (54) and Pratibha Sabharwal (62), and travelled around 1,700 km over six days. The trio who self-labelled themselves as “nanis on the highway” drove through four states and crossed the India-Bhutan border Phuentsholing.
