Avneet Kaur, an archer from Punjab, took home the bronze medal at the current Archery World Cup in Shanghai, China. In the classification match, Kaur defeated Turkey's archer Ipek Tomurk 147-144 to claim the bronze medal in the women's individual compound event at the World Cup.
The 2023 Archery World Cup, the 17th edition of the yearly world-organised international archery circuit that started in April, is slated to take place until September 10 and will feature four competitions. Who Is Archer Avneet Kaur?
Avneet Kaur is a Khalsa College in Patiala student from Sardargarh village in the Bathinda district. She competed impressively at the World Cup, making it to the semifinals before losing to English archer Elle Gibson 144–146. She then won the bronze medal match against the Turkish archer and took home the medal. Kaur’s accomplishment will serve as an example for the state’s young athletes.
In the compound division, India won all three of its medals, with Prathamesh Jawkar and Avneet Kaur taking home the individual gold and bronze, respectively. The mixed team gold was won by Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Ojas Deotale.
Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer stated that Kaur has brought honour to the state and the nation and congratulated her on this magnificent accomplishment. In addition to the archer's coach and parents, he credited the archer's hard work, perseverance, and determination for this success. The sports minister added, Kaur represents the nation's future in this sport and wished her luck in upcoming contests. In the future, he wished Kaur would succeed in even greater endeavours.
According to Meet Hayer, the state administration, which is led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is working to reclaim Punjab's position as the sports powerhouse, and this time the budget for sports has also been increased by 55%. A new sports policy reportedly will also be implemented shortly.
