The Lady In The Mirror

She looked with disdain as she brushed her long, unruly hair. She resented having to wake up day after day with minimum sleep, keep a house that no one lived in and head out to work to earn money she didn’t have a say over. She slowly realized that she hated her life twice as much as she did the previous day.

She stared blankly at the lady in the mirror. Someone she barely recognized. Her face looked haggard, her eyes were sunken and the dark circles around her eyes were a dead giveaway. She concealed her pain with a bright smile that never reached her eyes anymore. She harboured a secret. It wasn’t easy being a victim of domestic violence and pretending that everything was perfect.
