Anjali Tendulkar first encountered Sachin Tendulkar in 1990 at Mumbai airport when she was there to receive her mother. At the time, Anjali, a medical student with no interest in cricket, had no idea who Sachin was. She was instantly struck by his charming presence and found him "really cute." Unaware that he was returning from his first international cricket tour, it was her friend who later revealed that he was the wonder boy of Indian cricket.
Determined to connect with him, Anjali obtained his phone number through a mutual friend. When she called and introduced herself, Sachin surprised her by vividly recalling their first meeting and mentioning that she had been wearing an orange T-shirt, a gesture that confirmed he had noticed her too.
Their relationship blossomed despite challenges, especially given Sachin’s rising fame. Dating in public was difficult for the young cricketer, so the couple often resorted to creative solutions to avoid fan attention. Sachin even donned disguises, such as a false beard and glasses, for their outings, including a trip to the cinema.
Over five years of courtship, they navigated the unique hurdles of being in the public eye, strengthening their bond. Anjali, six years older than Sachin, never let the age gap come in the way of their relationship.
