Want to know how a Miss India and a powerhouse actor found forever in each other? Read on to discover their magical story. Back in their college days, Paresh Rawal and Swaroop Sampat shared a deep passion for theatre and acting, making it almost inevitable for destiny to bring them together.
How Paresh Rawal Won Miss India Swaroop Sampat’s Heart
Their love story began in Mumbai when Swaroop attended an inter-college play where Paresh was performing. Captivated by his brilliant performance, she couldn’t resist going backstage to praise him, admitting that she had become a fan.
Paresh, who was secretly in love with Swaroop from the moment he saw her in a pink saree, was smitten. Despite being warned by his friends not to pursue her, as she was the daughter of his boss, Paresh boldly declared, “Kisi ki bhi beti ho, behen ho, ma ho, main iske saath shaadi karunga.”
The two began meeting frequently, and their friendship quickly blossomed into a deep bond. Their quirky romance included Paresh awkwardly sitting with his arms crossed during their first movie date, leaving Swaroop wondering if he would hold her hand. On their second date, she chose 'The Exorcist' to "break the ice," and the moment finally arrived when they held hands.
Their love stood the test of time, lasting over a decade before marriage. During this period, Swaroop’s father encouraged her to join the Miss India pageant, although she wasn’t particularly keen. When she shared her reluctance with Paresh, his unwavering support moved her deeply. He assured her he would personally take her to the venue and wait for her no matter what.
Inspired by his confidence and encouragement, Swaroop participated in the competition and went on to win the title of Miss India in 1979, creating history. Their shared passion for theatre and acting kept them closely connected, strengthening their companionship and commitment to one another over the years.
In 1987, after twelve years of dating, Paresh proposed to Swaroop without hesitation, and the two tied the knot in an intimate and unique ceremony. Keeping the occasion simple and private, they exchanged vows under the shade of big old trees, with no mandap or traditional fire rituals. Their marriage was as unconventional as their love story, filled with mutual respect, understanding, and affection. Today, the couple is proud parents to two sons, Anirudh and Aditya, who have pursued creative careers, carrying forward their parents’ artistic legacy.
