Who is Becky Downie? International gymnast Becky Downie has been making news in the sports world ever since her qualification for the Tokyo Olympics which was credited to her on an extraordinary field- the demise of her brother.

The British Gymnastics extended the selection process for the Olympics 2021 as participant Rebecca Becky Downie missed the event because of the sudden demise of her cricketer brother who collapsed on the field in Birkenhead, near Liverpool during an ongoing match on May 6. He was pronounced dead of a heart attack later that evening.
The extension of the selection process provided a fair chance for Downie to take part in the championship.
Who Is Becky Downie?
- Downie is a two times European champion (2014 and 2016) and 2014 Commonwealth Games champion on the uneven bars and the 2019 World silver medallist. Hailing from Nottingham, UK, Downie's siblings too belong to the sports world, her late brother being a cricketer and her sister being an Olympic gymnast.
- The 29-year-old athlete, who began her career by representing England at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, took to her official Twitter account to share her resolution of continuing with the Olympics 2021 amidst her brother's death.
- In the tweet, she wrote, "The hardest 3 days of my life but I didn’t come this far to only come this far. I know Josh would want me to take it as far as I could go & I owe it to myself to finish what I started. Doing it for us both."

- Downie has had a very successful timeline in her career and is known for her strength and determination. Her fans have applauded her for her courage that did not let her stop even such lowest points of her.
- She wrote in a social media post, "I’ve been dealt some extremely difficult cards this year but still playing the best I can. Two sets of bars, working different timings on both but there is always a way."
