From Roja To Thalaivi, Here's Looking At Actor Madhoo's Body Of Work

Madhoo birthday: Multilingual actor Madhoo, who will be seen playing the role of Janaki Ramachandran in the upcoming film Thalaivi celebrates her birthday today. The actor has not only made her name in Hindi movies but has also done several films in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada languages. Thalaivi, starring Kangana Ranaut in the lead will see her reuniting with her Roja co-star Arvind Swami.

Talking about her role in Thalaivi with NBT.com, Madhoo said that it is one of the most crucial characters in the film. "I am doing a biopic for the first time, and of someone who is a renowned personality. Janaki Amma and Jayalalitha Amma have very few scenes together in the film as Thalaivi is mainly based on Jayalalitha and MGK's relationship and political career. However, Janaki is an important character, which gives a different twist to the film's story," she said.

Here's all that you need to know about Madhoo, as she turns 51 today:

1.  Madhoo began her film career in 1991. She made her debut with Tamil film Azhagan, starring Mammootty and Bhanupriya in the lead.

2. She made her Bollywood debut with the film Phool Aur Kaante starring alongside Ajay Devgn. Madhoo also featured in other Bollywood films like Prem Rog, Janta Ki Adalat, Hum Hain Bemisaal and many more.

3. One of the most prominent films remain the 1992 Mani Ratnam film Roja, which one her the Tamil Nadu State Film Award Special Prize.

4. The actor was nominated for a Filmfare Award in the Best Supporting Actress category, in 2015, for her role in Ranna.

5. But prior to making her debut as a heroine, Madhoo worked in films as a child artist, under the  stage name Baby Madhu Malini.

6. She took a short break from the film industry after the release of Mulaqaat in 2002 and made a comeback with the film Kabhi Socha Bhi Na Tha in 2008.

7. Madhoo is a professionally trained Bharatanatyam dancer.

8. She was also an anchor on DD National's popular show Chitrahaar and currently hosts another popular DD show Rangoli.

9. Madhoo made her comeback in the Hindi films after almost 10 years with the Zee 5 film Nail Polish in January 2021.

10. The actor is the niece of veteran actor Hema Malini. She is married to businessman Anand Shah and is a mom to two daughters.
