Yuvika Choudhary Controversy: After a short clip of actor Yuvika Choudhary using a casteist slur surfaced online, the 37-year-old has been facing a huge backlash and criticism from netizens who demand an arrest of her. The television actor has since apologised for her comments alleging that she didn't know what the slur exactly meant.
Actor Yuvika Choudhary caught the attention of social media users after she used an offensive casteist slur in one of her vlogs posted on her YouTube channel. Netizens have been quick to call out Choudhary’s actions and started to share a clip of her using the slur with the hashtag #ArrestYuvikaChoudhary.
In a similar case, actor Munmun Dutta has also recently faced a huge backlash from activists and social media users after she used an offensive casteist slur. Here's how the Yuvika Choudhary case unfolded:
- Yuvika Choudhary had shared a vlog on her YouTube channel in which the actor can be seen using an offensive casteist slur. The video caught the attention of social media users on May 25.
- After the video went viral, the hashtag #ArrestYuvikaChoudhary started trending on Twitter with a strong demand for action and the arrest of the actor.
- In the seven-second short clip, the Om Shanti Om actor can be seen talking about her appearance and her dressing style to the others present in the room which included her husband, Prince Narula.
- Choudhary criticised her dressing style and used the casteist word to make fun of herself. In The video, Choudhary’s husband who is also featured in the clip seemed to not care much for what his wife said.
- A few hours after the widespread criticism and backlash, Choudhary took to Twitter to apologise for her actions and claimed that she did not know the meaning of the word she used.
- “I apologise to each and everyone. I hope you understand. Love you all,” the actor tweeted. She said that she could never do that to hurt someone. Her husband also tweeted and said that they did not know the meaning of the word. He requested social media users to understand their situation.
- But activists and other media users said privileged people like her should start educating themselves. Many users also pointed out the insincerity of her apology. They advised her to make the apology specific to the community she offended instead of making an excuse.
- Despite the apology tweets, netizens claimed that strict action must be taken for ignorant celebrities and privileged people like Choudhary and Munmun Dutta so that people can be more aware of the consequences of their words.
