Actors Vidya Balan and Shefali Shah will be next seen in the investigative thriller Jalsa. The film is directed by Suresh Triveni and is scheduled to release this week.
Jalsa also features Manav Kaul, Rohini Hattangadi, Mohammad Iqbal Khan among others. The movie stars Vidya Balan as a journalist and Shefali Shah as her house-help whose daughter gets killed in a hit-and-run case.
Vidya Balan has always opted for female-centric films and with Shefali Shah in the mix, Jalsa is no different. Her character, Maya Menon, is a celebrated journalist who speaks out her mind and is equally ambitious.
Balan's Maya is however not a virtuous person. She seems to be torn between her career, family and her urge to back Rukhsana. As the film's trailer suggests, no one can be trusted, as each character has a lot riding on the investigation of this case that could upend their lives.

In a recent interview, Balan spoke on choosing female-centric stories way before it became a trend, saying that it came naturally to her because she is a woman. "I didn’t really make an attempt to tell female-led stories... it just stemmed from the fact that I am a woman and it happened organically. I choose stories where the woman is at the centre," she said.
While speaking in an interview, Delhi Crime star Shefali Shah shared what qualities of Vidya Balan amazed her as an actor. She said, "What I admire about Vidya the most is the fact that she’s grounded and yet she’s confident in her own space."
Director Suresh Triveni also remarked that the film promises an enriching experience to its audience as a thriller. "The film attempts to deliver a compelling story of secrets, truths, ironies laced with powerful, emotionally complex performances by Vidya and Shefali and the rest of the ensemble," He added.
This is the second time Balan will be collaborating with Triveni and Kaul, after the 2017 hit film Tumhari Sulu, which was a light-hearted comedy about a homemaker gaining financial independence and overcoming roadblocks to have a flourishing career.
