'Boycott Kareena Kapoor Khan' began trending on Twitter Saturday over reports of the actor allegedly being considered for the role of Sita from Ramayana for a film on the epic. In heavily communal overtones, a section of social media users is demanding Kapoor's removal from the said role, citing her interfaith marriage to Saif Ali Khan.
Earlier this week, reports surfaced of Kapoor allegedly asking for Rs 12 crore to play Sita in a film by Alaukik Desai. K Vijayendra Prasad, reportedly associated with the film as a screenwriter, has however categorically denied rumours of Kapoor being cast.
As per SpotboyE, a source close to the project said, "Kareena is not suited to the part at all. It must have suited some marketing brains somewhere to suggest she’s playing Sita as her husband is playing Ravan in another project." Khan is set to play the antagonist in Om Raut's Adipurush.
Boycott Kareena Kapoor Trends, Even As Makers Reportedly Deny Her Role
The Twitter trend is growing as verified accounts partake in the call for Kapoor's boycott. Her firstborn's name - Taimur - is also being invoked by several in allusion to its historical links, as has been done previously. Kapoor and Khan, who married in 2012, have not revealed their second son's name.
