Who was Kalyani Menon? The singer succumbed to paralysis on August 2 in a private hospital in Chennai. The news of her demise was confirmed by cinematographer Santosh Sivan. She was 80 years old.
The late singer is survived by her son Rajiv Menon who is a noted filmmaker. In 2018, in her last film 96, Menon sang along with Chinmayi Sripada a song titled Kathale Kathale which was composed by Govind Vasantha.

- With popular songs such as Ninakkum Nilavil, Jalasayyayil and many others under her name, Menon sang over 100 songs in Malayalam and Tamil movies.
- Some of her popular songs are Kuluvalile,Kundanapu Bomma,Vaadi Saathukodi,Phoolon Jaisi Ladki, Omane Penne, Ritubheda Kalpana Charutha Nalikaya and Pavanarachezhuthunnu.
- Kalyani Menon rose to fame after the release of a film titled Dweepu which was directed by Ramu Karait. She had sung the song Kannirin Mazhayathum for the movie in 1977.
- She was the only daughter of parents Balakrishna Menon and Rajamma who hailed from Ernakulam.
- She was a trained classical singer and a disciple of MR Sivaraman Nair. Menon had made her singing debut in 1973 with the film Abala. Before that, she had entered the music industry through Kalalaya Youth Festival.
- Her first Tamil song was Sevvaname Ponmeghame for the film Nallatoru Kudumbam in the 1980s. The song was composed by Ilayaraja.
- She had also worked with A R Rahman in several projects since the 1990s. She worked with A R Rahman in his popular version of Vande Mataram album.
- Theril Vanthal Devadai, Njan Iravil Ezhuthum Kavithai Muluthum were a few of her super hit songs.
- Menon also gave her voice to a new version of Eppo Varuvaro in the Ussale album of Sreenivas. She sang alongside Unnikrishnan in the album.
- Kalyani Menon had also acted in her son Rajeev Menon's film titled Kandukondein Kandukondein.Β Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was also part of the cast in the film.
