Who Is Vijay Babu? Malayalam Actor Accused Of Sexual Assault

The Malayalam actor and producer Vijay Babu is in news for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman. A complaint against him was registered on April 22 at the Ernakulam South Police by the survivor. As per news reports, the police are yet to interrogate him or detain him with regard to the case.

The survivor, who is a native of Kozhikode district, alleged that Vijay Babu had sexually assaulted her at a flat in Kochi, Kerala. In her complaint, she also stated that he had done it more than once, under the pretext of providing her work in films.

With the allegation going public, the actor Vijay Babu hosted a Facebook Live, where he denied the allegations. Not only that, he even disclosed the identity of the survivor and said that he will be filing a defamation case against her. He pledged not to let the matter pass and stated that he is ready to show all the proof with regards to the case.

Who Is Vijay Babu?

He is an actor and a film producer in the Malayalam film industry. He is the founder of the company named Friday Film House. Other than this, he has also won the Kerala State Film Award for the Best Children's Film, for the film Philips and The Monkey Pen in 2013.

He is also known for films like Peruchazhi, Aadu, and Mudhugauv, among many others. He set the record by producing Sufiyum Sujatayum, which became the first Malayalam film to release directly on the OTT platform.

He is born in Kollam, Kerala to Subashchandra Babu and Maya Babu. He has two siblings. Vijay Babu did his schooling at St Jude School in Kollam and then completed graduation from the American College in Madhurai, Tamil Nadu.

According to the Deccan Chronicle, he is a serious media person and marketing person, who worked for different television networks. He is also an entrepreneur. He is being more than 16 years in media and has headed Asianet from the Middle East, later becoming COO for Asianet Sithara in Hyderabad.

In an interview, he said, "I have closely interacted with the film industry, mostly buying movies for Soorya Tv, in my days as vice president. My day-to-day interactions made me an integral part of the industry. A lot of movies happened through me because I would recommend buying its satellite rights not based on the stars acting in it but on the basis of the script."
