Who is Supriya Shrinate? Former journalist and Indian National Congress Party spokesperson Supriya Shrinate is trending on Twitter today for a comment she made against Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Sambit Patra. Many people have taken offence to Shrinate referring to Patra as "nali ke keede" during a news debate. The entire incident was  caught on camera and Shrinate's clip has been since doing rounds on social media.

Patra himself took to the social networking platform Twitter to share the clip, writing, "How educated ..How Cultured...Wah!!"

However, some people have pointed out that Shrinate made the comment after she was provoked by Patra himself, who called her an "illiterate woman".

Shrinate seems to have also reacted to the controversy on social media, albeit indirectly.

Here's what we know about Supirya Shrinate:

1. Supriya Shrinate is a former business journalist and Former Executive Editor, ETNOW, who joined the Congress Party ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

2. Shrinate contested the General Assembly elections on Congress Party ticket from Maharajganj in Uttar Pradesh. She had replaced jailed politician Amarmani Tripathi's daughter Tanushree Tripathi as the Congress Party candidate from the said seat.

3. However she lost the election, and was appointed spokesperson of the party in September the same year.

4. Shrinate is the daughter of late UP politician Harsh Vardhan, who was the two-time Congress MP from the same constituency.

5. Shrinate was invited on a television ebate recently, to access the work done by Modi government in seven years of being in power. During the heated debate, Shrinate got in an altercation with BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra and called him "gandi naali ke keedi" multiple times.
