Former Congress Candidate Supriya Aron, along with her husband and former Congress MP Pravin Singh Aron joined Samajwadi Party on Saturday ahead of UP Assembly Polls. The politician will be contesting UP assembly elections from Bareilly Cantt.
Supriya Aron, former Congress candidate for UP Assembly Polls recently joined Samajwadi Party along with her husband Pravin Singh Aron who was a former Congress MP. SP President welcomed the couple in a press conference where he also declared her candidature from the same seat.
Who is Supriya Aron?
The journalist-turned-politician Supriya Aron was named as a Congress candidate contesting for the Barielly Cantt seat in the first list of candidates for UP Assembly Polls rolled out by the party on January 13. She was one of the 50 women candidates Congress declared as a part of its ‘Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon’ campaign.
Supriya Aron is a former Mayor of Bareilly and replaced Rajesh Agarwal as the SP candidate for Bareilly Cantt seat. Aron had contested election from the same seat in 2012 as a Congress candidate but lost. She also contested for the post of Mayor in Bareilly on a Congress ticket in 2006 and had won.
Mother of two daughters, Aron holds a Diploma degree in Journalism from Delhi. Her husband, an advocate by profession will also contest the UP Assembly Polls as a SP candidate.
Supriya Aron was involved in a controversy over her comment on the ruckus created at a girls’ marathon conducted by Congress in Bareilly which injured three girls. She juxtaposed the situation with the stampede occurred at Mata Vaishno Devi Mandir which caused the death of 12 people. She stated, “People had gone to Vaishno Devi on a pilgrimage (on New Year Day), what happened there? What will you call it? It is human tendency to race ahead (of others). Here it is girls who are studying in schools and a little bit of 'bhaag daurh' took place.”
The UP Assembly Polls will be held in seven stages starting from February 10.
