Who is Sohini Sarkar? Towards the end of the Macbeth-inspired teaser of Mandaar, a pair of kohled eyes slowly look up with blood splattered on the face, they belong to Sohini Sarkar.
The teaser released by Hoichoi World Classics is dark and sombre. Sohini Sarkar's appearance towards the end of the one-minute-fifty-one-second video is equally hair-raising.
Sarkar started her career as an actor in 2013 and since then has been known for working in multiple films. A few of the films that she has been part of are Phoring, which is a 2013 film directed by Indranil Roychowhury where she played the role of Doel. In Vinci Da, Sarkar played the role of Jaya in a Bengali psychological thriller directed by Srijit Mukherji in 2019; Crisscross and many more.
Here are few things to know about Sohini Sarkar:
- Before Mandaar, Sarkar was seen in Kaushik Ganguly's film Kabaddi Kabaddi, where she played the role of Seema, a small-town girl who plays the sport.
- In an interview with Times of India, Sarkar said that she likes working with director Kaushik Ganguly as she can depend on his guidance and work according to her instincts.
- The actor has two other over-the-top (OTT) projects lined up and one of them is Indradeep Das Gupta's Agantuk where she is playing the role of a 70-year-old woman.
- Before Kabaddi, she acted in a film by Saumen Sur, Ei Ami Renu, which was based on a novel by Samaresh Majumdar. The film, which was released in theatre on April 9, was a period drama based in 1980s. In the film, Sarkar played the role of a wife of a government officer.
- After kick-starting her career in television, she gifted her a gold ring. Since then she has bought many pieces of jewellery but buying her mother something from her "hard-earned" money is still close to her heart.
- Sarkar along with her boyfriend, Ranojoy, are open about their relationship on social media, giving no attention to trolls.
- Recently there were rumours about the duo's marriage, during her interviews for Kabaddi Kabaddi she said that it is too soon for marriage. The couple has been in a relationship for just two years.
- In 2018 SVF's Crisscross-she played the role of a housewife who is trapped in a loveless marriage and her husband abuses her while her in-laws pressurise her to have a child. In all these films her roles were quite different but each one was powerful on-screen.
- Sarkar does not believe in competition. She feels her works speaks for itself. At the same time, she feels happy when a fellow actor is appreciated for a role or character.
