Who Is Sargam Koushal? Mumbai-Based Teacher Model Wins Mrs World 2022

Mumbai-based Sargam Koushal was named Mrs World 2022, besting contestants from 63 countries to bring the title back to India after 21 years. The ceremony was held at Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino on Saturday. 17 December evening.

Mrs World 2021 Shaylyn Ford of the United States presented the crown to Koushal on Saturday evening. Mrs Polynesia was named the first runner-up, followed by Mrs Canada as the second runner-up.

Sharing the news on Instagram, the Mrs India pageant said, "The long wait is over, it's after 21 years we have the CROWN back!"

A video from the ceremony shows Koushal bursting into tears after being crowned as the winner. “We’ve got the crown back after 21-22 years. I’m so excited. Love you India, love you world,” she later said in a video following the ceremony.

Koushal said to ANI, "I have a lot of things to say to the women of our country because I feel that they think after getting married the life has ended and it's only surrounded around their family and children. This is a good thing but apart from all that, I wanted to ask when you go to sleep and when you see your face in the mirror, do you feel that passion in yourself? That I did everything I wanted to do? If the answer is no, then take a step from today itself and bring that change in your life."

Who is Sargam Koushal?

Koushal hails from Jammu and Kashmir and currently lives in Mumbai. She is the daughter of a retired Jammu banker GS Koushal. 32-year-old Sargam married naval officer Aditya Manohar Sharma, currently posted in Mumbai, in 2018.

She obtained her Masters degree in English Literature from the University of Jammu and completed her Bachelor's in Education from the Government B Ed College of Jammu.

As per her social media account, Koushal previously worked as a teacher in Vizag. She is also a content writer, model and painter.

Earlier on June 15 this year, she defeated 51 contestants from all over the country and was crowned Mrs India World in an event held at the NESCO Centre in Goregaon, Mumbai, which paved her way to Las Vegas to represent India in Mrs World 2022 pageant.

Prior to Sargam, actress, model and medico Dr Aditi Govitrikar had won the prestigious title for India in 2001. Govitrikar also congratulated  Koushal on the feat. She wrote: “Heartiest congratulations @sargam3 @mrsindiainc so happy to have been part of the journey.. it was time the crown came back after 21 years.”

For the final round, Koushal wore a pink centre-slit glittery sequined gown designed by Bhawna Rao and was mentored for the runway by pageant expert and model Alesia Raut.

Mrs World is the first beauty pageant for married women. The pageant was conceived in 1984 and traces its roots to the Mrs America pageant. Initially, the pageant was named Mrs Woman of the World. It came to be known as Mrs World only in 1988. Over the years, Mrs World has seen entrants from over 80 countries with America having the most number of winners, writes NDTV.
