Who Is Rashmi Shukla IPS? The Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Rashmi Shukla has been summoned by the Bhima Koregaon inquiry commission and is supposed to appear as a witness on January 18. Earlier, Shukla was called for the hearing but she abstained from it and filed an affidavit seeking more time.
In the violence, several were injured and one person died. In connection with the case, the police had filed 58 cases against 162 people.
The lawyer for the inquiry commission, Advocate Ashish Satpute said, "Rashmi Shukla had sought time during her previous appearance before the commission, a fresh application was filed by the lawyer of the commission to issue fresh summons to Rashmi Shukla. The commission has allowed that application and has asked her to appear on January 18."

Both Shukla and former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh were summoned. But Singh did not appear before the commission, which is headed by the retired chief justice of the Calcutta High Court JN Patel and former Maharashtra Chief Secretary Sumit Mullick.
During 2018, when the violence broke, Shukla was the Commissioner of Pune Police and Singh was the Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order). Activists and lawyers like Sudha Bharadwaj, who recently got bail, Varavara Rao, Arun Ferreira, amongst others were arrested in relation to the case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act of 1967 (UAPA).
Who is Rashmi Shukla IPS?
A 1988 batch IPS officer from Maharashtra cadre, Rashmi Shukla is one of the renowned officers in the Maharashtra Police Service. She worked as the coordinator with the Maharashtra government in the terror attacks of November 2008.
She has also served as Additional DGP and Commissioner of the State Intelligence Department which supervised the coastal security of Maharashtra and was the second woman police commissioner of Pune in 2016.
Shukla was awarded the President Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2005. According to her, "Instead of saying her is what I will do for the city, let my work speak."
However on March 26 this year, the cyber police filed a case on State Intelligence Department (SID) for leaked reports and "monetary exchange" between middlemen and politicians. Shukla was the commissioner of SID. According to a report filed by the Chief Secretary of Maharashtra Sitara Kunte to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Shukla allegedly intercepted calls of six persons for "public safety".
