Who is R Sreelakha? R Sreelekha has made many historical firsts, including becoming the first female Director-General of Police (DGP) and the first female IPS (Indian Police Service) officer in Kerala. Seven months after being promoted to DGP for Kerala Fire And Rescue Services, R Sreelekha announced her retirement.

R Sreelekha reportedly claimed that the investigation team of the 2017 actor abduction case has  made a mistake by dragging Dileep into the case. She also reportedly said that although she has trust in the police department, she doesn’t understand why they are not admitting to their mistakes of wrongfully accusing the actor.

In her video, Sreelekha said, “I saw in the media that a cell mate spoke of Suni sneaking the phone in after going to court one day. But it can’t be done, because police officers and jail officers handle the criminals returning from court and will be thoroughly examined. Another cell mate said that the phone was brought in a sandal, but sandals are not allowed in prison. Even otherwise, there are video cameras in all the cells.”

As per a report by NewsMinute, prosecution had said that one of the cell mates of Pulsar Suni who left the jail, sneaked in the phone through someone else, and it has no connection to any court visits by any inmate.

Who Is R Sreelakha?

• R Sreelekha IPS have made many historical firsts, including becoming the first female Director-General of Police (DGP) and the first female IPS (Indian Police Service) officer in Kerala. This first female officer in the Kerala cadre is an IPS officer from the 1987 batch. She began her career as the Superintendent of Police (SP) at Cherthala in Kerala's Alappuzha district and has since held other important positions.
• R Sreelakha was also appointed as the Superintendent of Police(SP) in some other districts of Kerala like Thrissur and Pathanamthitta. Later, she worked as the Crime Branch's Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Inspector General of Police (IG), and Additional Director General of Police before moving on to the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) (ADGP).
• When IPS officer R Sreelekha was appointed DGP in June 2020, she was already serving as the ADGP of the Prisons and Correctional Services Department. Additionally, Sreelekha IPS have served as a transport commissioner.
• She has also served as the head of organisations run by the government, including the Rubber Marketing Federation, Kerala State Construction Corporation, and the Roads and Bridges Development Corporation.
• The IPS officer, R Sreelakha is credited with introducing numerous noteworthy initiatives. Flash raids or inspections were first implemented by Vigilance while she was the head of the VACB.
• The VACB team led by Sreelekha conducted "Operation Annapurna," uncovering corruption at the publicly traded Consumerfed (Kerala State Co-operative Consumers Federation Limited).
