Who is Olena Zelenska: Ukraine's First Lady Olena Zalenska is a common face in the news in recent days amid the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. Zalenska took to her Instagram few hours after the first attacks on Ukraine sharing a message of strength with her citizens. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenksy decided to go into hiding with his family in the capital Kyiv instead of fleeing from the country.
Olena Zelenska, the Ukrainian First Lady, on Sunday, shared a picture of a child born in one of the bomb shelters at the Ukrainian capital Kyiv. "But the main thing is that, despite the war, there were doctors and caring people on our streets next to her. She will be protected. Because you are incredible, dear compatriots!" she wrote in the Instagram post.
Zelenska is much more than just the First Lady of Ukraine and the wife of President Volodymyr Zelensky. Her courage and determination is commendable as she stands strong beside her husband refusing to give in even as the Russian troops surrounded Kyiv.
Who is Olena Zelenska?
Olena Volodymyrivna Zelenska is the wife of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the First Lady of Ukraine. The 44-year-old is a mother of two children, daughter aged 17 and 9-year-old son.
Olena Zelenska is an actor, comedian, architect and screenwriter by profession. Zelenska met President Zelensky when the two attended the same Kryvyi Rih National University while she was studying architecture and he was a budding comedian studying law. The Ukrainian First Lady was also named as one of the 100 Most Influential Women in Ukraine by Focus Magazine in 2019.
Zelenska is an ardent supporter of women's right as she has time and again made speeches around the subject of gender equality. In 2019, Olena Zelenska initiated that Ukraine shall be a part of Biarritz Partnership, the G7 international initiative on gender equality. She has also advocated for childhood nutrition proposing a reform of the school nutrition system and initiated the spread of Ukrainian language across the world.
