Nayanthara has been a defining force for feminism in the South Indian film industry. Known for her versatility, Nayanthara has showcased her acting prowess in her choice of roles, predominantly in women-centric movies, and her portrayal of powerful female characters in  Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films. She is the first South Indian celebrity, who made it to the Forbes list (2018).

With women being misrepresented in the mainstream media for far too long, actors taking up female-led characters are the need of the hour. Nayanthara with her massive fan base is setting an example with her choice of characters and has stated that she will only be acting in female-led movies.

Who Is Nayanthara?

The actor whose real name is Diana Mariam Kurian got married to her longtime beau Vignesh Shivan in 2022. Their wedding film was documented and released on Netflix as Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale. Soon after marriage, the couple welcomed their twin boys Uyir and Ulagam who were born through surrogacy.

Imaikkaa Nodigal

Starring Nayanthara, Atharvaa and Anurag Kashyap in the lead roles, this psychological thriller, follows the story of a CBI officer on the hunt to unmask a serial thriller. Imaikkaa Nodigal, with its excellent storyline and acting, garnered praises for the actor. The portrayal of a strong female protagonist, in the otherwise male-dominated movie industry was greatly appreciated. She went on to win a couple of awards for her role in the movie.

Aaram

Adding yet another women-centric film to her credit, this Tamil drama film follows a story of a small girl who falls into a pothole, and Nayanthara, who plays the role of a district collector is to rescue her.  Aaram is known to be one of her best movies. This Nayanthara starrer, is a 2018 Tamil language black comedy crime film, following the story of a young girl who gets into a drug racket to earn quick money, putting her entire families' lives at risk. This movie was helmed by Nelson Dilipkumar.
