Who is Mette Frederiksen: The youngest-ever Danish Prime Minister and the second woman in the position, Mette Frederiksen has arrived in New Delhi for bilateral talks with India. The focus of the talks is to be "the India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership".
This is Frederiksen's first state visit to India, also the first visit by any head of the state since COVID-19 restrictions were put in place. Her visit is important to India, considering there is a strong trade between the two countries. More than 200 Danish companies are present in India and over 60 Indian companies are on Danish soil.
During her visit, she will call on Indian President Ram Nath Kovind and hold bilateral talks with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Speaking at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Frederiksen said that Denmark considers India as a close partner and that the visit is another milestone for the countries' bilateral relations.
Last year the two countries signed an agreement on a green strategic partnership. In the same speech, she added that with COP26 Glasgow coming up in a few weeks, she hopes that they agree on ways to support the rest of the world.
Amongst other meets, Frederiksen is also going to interact with think tanks, students and members of civil society.

With the news of the pandemic coming in, she had immediately shut down the borders of Denmark on March 13, 202o. This was followed by the closing down of schools, universities and public gatherings.
Who is Mette Frederiksen?
Mette Frederiksen was appointed as the Prime Minister of the country on June 27, 2019, making her the second Danish woman in the position. The first woman to be elected prime minister was Helle Thorning-Schmidt in 2011. She remained in office till 2015.
Also, the leader of the Socialist Democratic Party of Denmark, which is centre-left in ideology, she is the youngest Danish person to hold the position as head of the state.
Her main two policies as PM have been to boost welfare spending and tackle climate issues. Thus bringing is to the talks of green strategic partnership between the two countries. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on this strategy was signed for delivering sustainable solutions to India, which means focus on expanding economic ties, the green growth (denotes economic growth using natural resources in sustainable and corporation on global issues like climate change.
