Who is Liz Truss? In the UK Prime Ministerial election race, Indian-origin candidate Rishi Sunak is head to head with Liz Truss. As per reports, Liz Truss is now in the lead over Sunak, with 24 points, and has gained the internet spotlight.

Liz Truss, a British minister, formerly served as the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs (2021), Minister for Women and Equalities (2019). Since 2010 she has also been a Member of Parliament (MP) for South West Norfolk and held cabinet positions, under former prime ministers including Boris Johnson.

The Prime Ministerial elections closed on September 2, 2022, and the new Tory leader and Prime Minister to succeed Boris Johnson will be confirmed on September 5. The results will be announced today at 5 PM and either Truss or Rishi Sunak will be named the next UK Prime Minister.

Who is Liz truss?

Mary Elizabeth Truss, born in 1975, hails from Oxford, England. Her father John Kenneth is a professor of pure mathematics at the University of Leeds, and her mother, Priscilla Mary Truss is a nurse, teacher, and member of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. Her mother has been her constant support throughout her political journey, also campaigning for her when she decided to stand for parliament elections for the conservative party. 

Liz Truss completed her schooling in West Primary School in Paisley, Renfrewshire, and Roundhay School, in Leeds. She has a degree in  Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from  Merton College, Oxford (1996) She has served as the president of Oxford University Liberal Democrats and a member of Liberal Democrat Youth and Students while she was in college. Liz has proven to be a tough contender to Rishi Sunak in the upcoming elections for UK prime ministerial elections.

A government poll revealed that Truss is in a 24-point lead over Sunak, and both contenders have six weeks of campaigning left ahead of them, with results being declared on September 5, 2022. With the lead at this stage, reports suggest that the chances of Liz Truss winning are high. According to a government poll, it was also revealed that of 730 Conservative Party members, 62 percent were in favor of Truss and only 38 percent opted for Sunak. Liz seems to be confident about her win, leading with her slogan -'Ready To Lead, Trusted To Deliver'.

Liz Truss became the Prime Minister of Britain on September 6, 2022. Two days after her joining the office, the Queen Of England, Elizabeth II passed away and following that Britain saw a turbulent time economically. Truss' government introduced a concept of a 'mini budget' which did not go well with the people. Truss was under a lot of pressure politically too as the Chancellor of the Exchequer and Home Secretary both resigned over a week. She became the shortest-serving Prime Minister in Britain when she declared her resignation on October 20, 2022, only after 45 days of service. She said, "I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party."
