Who is Lata Shinde? All About The Wife Of New Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde

After over a week of upheaval in Maharashtra state politics, Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde has been appointed as the new Chief Minister of the state, backed by its new ally Bharatiya Janata Party. Shinde has replaced Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray, who was leading the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi coalition, which his party had formed alongside Nationalist Congress Party and Indian National Congress in 2019.

After he openly rebelled against Thackeray and the coalition government, a lot has been written about the political and personal journey of Eknath Shinde. With his new appointment the spotlight also shifts to his life partner Lata Shinde.

Lata Shinde has been with Eknath Shinde from his days of driving an auto-rickshaw to one of the most influential leaders in the state of Maharashtra. She has been described as a supporter of her husband and has stood by his side during both tough and good times.

Eknath Shinde had to search for a job without finishing his education due to financial constraints and eventually the family moved to Thane in search of greener pastures. He used to work in a company that sold fish and left the job to become a rickshaw driver. His career in politics began when he started working for Shiv Sena heavily influenced by Thane district chief of the party- Anand Dighe.

Lata Shinde is the wife of new Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who replaced Uddhav Thackeray from the post.

Dighe supported Shinde and it is said that he played a big role in his election as the leader of the House in Thane Municipal Corporation. However, Shinde and his wife have also dealt with a personal tragedy, due to which they suffered from depression for many months.

Who Is Lata Shinde?

• Lata Shinde and Eknath Shinde originally hail from Satara, but chose to migrate to Thane in search of better prospects.
• In 2000, their children aged 11 and seven passed away in an accident after their boat capsized in a lake.
• Following the tragic passing of their two children due to drowning, Shinde and her husband struggled with depression, but supported each other to overcome the tragedy.
• Dr Shrikant Shinde is the couple's surviving son. He is an orthopaedic surgeon and a Member of Parliament from Kalyan area.
• Shinde resides in a bungalow called Shubhdeep, name after her late children Dipesh and Shubhada. She livs with her husband Eknath, her son Shrikant, her daughter-in-law Vrushali, and grandson Rudransh.
• She is not as involved in politics as her husband and son.
• Reports suggest that Lata Shinde is a admirer of actors Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone.
