Jung made her acting debut in the series with the character Kang Sae-Byeok, number 067, a North Korean defector, who lost her father and grandparents. She was forced to leave her mother and escape with her younger brother and came to South Korea. Here, she barely makes a living and is forced to leave her brother at a children’s home. She hopes to win the money and use it for getting her brother out, and living a respectable life.
Before acting, Jung Ho-Yeon was a well-known figure in the modelling industry, starting her career at the age of sixteen. Born on 23 June, 1994, she signed with Esteem models, after establishing herself at the Seoul Fashion Week. She has also participated in the fourth season of Korea’s Next Top Model and emerged as the runner up.
Jung made her international modelling debut in 2016, as an exclusive model for Louis Vuitton. She has since walked the ramp for many popular luxury brands like Prabal Gurung, Chanel, Jeremy Scott and Roberto Cavalli. She has graced the covers of reputed fashion magazines including Vogue Korea andVogue Japan.
In a statement, she said that she could connect with Sae-Byeok’s character, with the loneliness of being in a foreign country, when she had spent long years alone overseas, for her acting career. She said that at that time, the emotion she felt the most was “loneliness” and it was somewhat similar Kang Sae Byeok.
Squid Game released on Netflix on September 17, 2021.
