Gulab Devi is among the five women candidates who have been included in Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's new cabinet. His new cabinet includes 52 ministers, out of which 18 helm the cabinet ranks. The new cabinet has five female ministers and the government has a new complexion.
Yogi Adiyanath took oath as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for the second consecutive time. He assumed office as Chief Minister of UP on March 19, 2017, for the first time and was re-elected in the 2022 Assembly Polls. He took his oath in a ceremony at Ekana Stadium on Friday which was administered by UP Governor Anandiben Patel. The event was attended by over 75,000 people including BJP workers and supporters along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh among other BJP ministers.
Yogi Adityanath's government will include two Deputy Chief Ministers, namely, Keshav Maurya and Brajesh Pathak. The new UP government includes 52 ministers including five female ministers in the newly formed cabinet who are: Gulab Devi, Rajni Tiwari, Pratibha Shukla, Baby Rani Maurya and Vijay Laxmi Gautam.
Who is Gulab Devi?
Gulab Devi was sworn in as the new Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the new cabinet of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. She is among the five female ministers to be included in the new government under the department of secondary education. Gulab Devi won for the fifth time as an MLA from Chandausi constituency in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh defeating SP MLA Vimlesh Kumari by reportedly 35,420 votes. Maintaining her record of victory, Gulab Devi became MLA for the second time.
The minister was a part of the cabinet as a Minister of State in Yogi Adityanath’s previous tenure as CM. She served as the State Vice President of Bhartiya Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh from 2008-2012.
The 66-year-old is a post-graduate; according to the affidavit filed with the Election Commission, her profession is stated as pension from Education Department and Vidhan Sabha Allowances and Other Sources.
Reportedly, Devi was a teacher by profession and also served as a Principal of the Girls' Inter College at Chandausi. Gulab Devi was reportedly supported by her daughter and BJP state spokesperson Sakshi during her election campaign.
