Who is Edilsy Vargas? The Lead Actor of A.R. Rahman's 99 Songs

Latina actor Edilsy Vargas was recently starred in A.R. Rahman's musical romance film 99 Songs which was released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu on 16 April 2021.

Apart from Vargas, Ehan Bhat, Aditya Seal, Lisa Ray and Manisha Koirala too played prominent roles in the film. It showcases the life of Jay, a struggling musician, whose life revolves around his girlfriend and music. This film marks Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy's directorial debut.

A.R. Rahman had a lot to say about Edilsy Vargas. "She imbibed the character of Sophie, playing the spectrum of the role while embracing Sophie's every layer in a manner both nuanced and profound," he said. He also said that Edilsy was selected out of 600 auditions that took place for the film's female lead.

1. Edilsy Vargas was born on 18 July 1989 in Santiago, Dominican Republic, South America.
2. She started working as a model for many ads and TV commercials.
3. After her graduation, she then started working for a culinary TV show Guia Del Buen Comer which was produced by her husband Mikey.
4. Vargas learnt acting with a coach from Los Angeles, Steve Thompson at Pine Wood Studios, with Many Perez, Spanish coach and actor, etc.
5. She has acted in numerous films such as Pimp Bullies, Alfonso Rodriguez, Luis, Lotoman, Peppermint, The Manor Anf Luis, etc.
6. She then made her debut in Indian cinema with her film 99 Songs which was helmed by Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman.
7. The film received mixed reviews from critics.
8. Vargas' mother was a computer systems engineer, while her father Eddy Vargas was a Master of construction. She has two younger sisters named Rashell Rodriguez and Pamela Vargas.
