The 71st edition of the well-known and prestigious beauty pageant Miss Universe is all set to happen on the 14th of January 2023. The event will be held at the Ernest N. Moral Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. Divita Rai a 25-year-old, architect and model from Karnataka will represent India in the pageant this year.
A total of 84 contestants from around the world will represent their country and compete against each other to win the title of Miss Universe 2022. Earlier the Miss Universe 2021 pageant was won by Miss India, Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu on December 12, 2021. Now it's time for her to pass down her Miss Universe crown to the upcoming beauty queen.
If Divita Rai wins the pageant, she will be the fourth Indian to do so, after Sushmita Sen (1994), Lara Dutta (2000) and Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu (2021).
Who Is Divita Rai? India’s official representative at Miss Universe
- Divita Rai is a 25-year-old Indian model, she was born in Mangalore, but has lived in many parts of the country due to her father's transferable profession.
- Divita completed her education at National Public School, Bangalore before she enrolled in the Sir JJ College of Architecture in Mumbai.
- She is an architect and a model by profession, apart from that she enjoys playing basketball and badminton and loves to paint, read and listen to music in her leisure time.
- She was placed among the top three Karnataka finalists competing to advance to Femina Miss India in 2019.
- Rai participated in Miss Diva 2021 and came in second place to Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu. She won the titles of Miss IQ, Miss Lifestyle, and Miss Sudoku during the competition too.
- Rai was crowned Miss Universe India on August 28, 2023, in Mumbai by Harnaaz Sandhu(reigning Miss Universe).
- The opulent golden outfit titled “sone ki chidiya” was worn by Divita for the National Costume round in the pageant, which was designed by Abhishek Sharma. The outfit portrayed India as "the golden bird", a symbol of the wealth and cultural heritage of India. Rai is getting appreciation and praise from around the globe for her magnificent outfit.
