Who is Chitra Sarwara? The Indian politician Chitra Sarwara and her father, who is former Haryana Congress leader Nirmal Singh, have been in news for quite some time now. The father-daughter duo took the decision of joining the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) recently. Today, Singh and his daughter joined the political party in the presence of AAP National Convenor and the Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal.
This shift to AAP happened a month after the political party's thumping victory in the Punjab Assembly Elections 2022. Both Singh and Sarwara are the founding members of the Haryana Democratic Front (HDF). Their joining of the AAP was confirmed way ahead by a top AAP leader, whose name has not been revealed in the media reports.
The local leaders, reportedly said that the duo will be merging their two-year-old political party with AAP. The news media have also reported about Singh being given an important responsibility in North Haryana while Chitra might attain a senior position in the state. There is no official confirmation on the same. An anonymous source was quoted saying, "We are not sure on this, but they are active leaders and will be given a good responsibility."

In 2020, Singh and Sawara launched HDF in Ambala after an unsuccessful stint as independent candidates since their departure from Congress. They kept northern Haryana as their focus area. The party faced its electoral test in the municipal corporation elections but only won 2 seats out of the 20 wards.
Who Is Chitra Sarwara?
Chitra Sarwara is a second-generation politician. Sarwara, an alumna of the National Institute of Design, as a school student played in state and national level volleyball tournaments. She had previously worked with two private design firms before following in her father’s footsteps.
She held multiple positions in Indian National Congress. In 2013, she was elected as the corporator of Ambala Municipal Corporation. Later in 2015, she joined Haryana Pradesh Mahila Congress and led many protests and raised her voice against issues faced by women.
She also held the post of the National General Secretary and social media in charge of the All India Mahila Congress and had designed a website for the All India Mahila Congress which was launched by Rahul Gandhi. She has also served as the Senior Vice-President, Spokesperson and Coordinator for the Haryana Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee.
