Who Is Asser Malik: Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai tied the knot with her long-time partner Asser Malik in a low-key ceremony on November 9. The 24-year-old activist took to social media to share the news of her nuptials.

"Today marks a precious day in my life. Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life. We celebrated a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families," Yousafzai tweeted, requesting her followers to keep the couple in their prayers. "We are excited to walk together for the journey ahead."

In the photographs shared by Yousafzai, who is also UN's Messenger of Peace, she is seen completing the nikah formalities with Malik and posing with her parents and husband.
The nikkah ceremony took place at Yousafzai's home in Birmingham.
Several celebrities like Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Katrina Kaif, Reese Witherspoon, Lilly Singh congratulated the newlyweds on social media.
In her previous interviews, Yousafzai had expressed that she didn't have much faith in the institution of marriage. In an interview with Vogue this year, she said, "I still don't understand why people have to get married." Yousafzai had further wondered, "If you want to have a person in your life, why do you have to sign marriage papers, why can't it just be a partnership?"
