Born on February 26, 1988, in Rosario, Argentina, the same city as Messi, Antonela Roccuzzo is a model and dietician whose parents are Patricia and Jose Roccuzzo and has two siblings Carla and Paula Roccuzzo. Messi was her cousin Lucas Scaglia's friend and the two met each other when they were five as Messi frequently visited their house to meet his friend as an excuse to see her. However, they got together in 2007 when Messi moved to Barcelona but returned to console Roccuzzo after the death of Messi's friend. In 2008, they made their relationship public.

A bachelor in humanities and social sciences, Roccuzzo joined post-graduation classes to study dentistry but decided to drop out and move to Barcelona to stay close to Messi. In 2016, she opened a boutique after signing a modelling contract with designer Ricky Sarkany with footballer Luis Suarez's wife Sofia Balbi who was Messi's former teammate.
