Who Is Ankita Konwar? Fitness Enthusiast From Assam Who Called Out 'Racism'

Who is Ankita Konwar: Actor and model Milind Soman’s wife, Ankita recently spoke about 'racism'  when we were all busy celebrating the medal of Manipuri weightlifter Chanu Saikhom Mirabai at the ongoing Olympics Games in Tokyo.

The fitness enthusiast who hails from Assam had highlighted racial discrimination in India towards people from the seven sister states. And pointed out how people jump to celebrate the athletes from these states only when they achieve something on an international podium and, otherwise, they are subjected to racism.

Konwar mentioned racist behaviour towards Northeast people has been on the rise. "You can become an Indian ONLY when you win a medal for the country." More here. "India is not just infested with casteism but racism too," she shared.

Reacting to Konwar’s tweet, one user on Twitter wrote, “Very negative approach…….. atleast not expected from mrs milind (sic).” To which, she responded, "I’m Ankita Konwar" and not Mrs Milind.

Who is Ankita Konwar?

Ankita Konwar, who is a fitness enthusiast born in Guwahati, Assam, has often called out racism against people from the Northeast. She has been in the limelight since the 52-year-old model and fitness enthusiast, Soman declared their relationship in an Instagram post in 2017. In the initial phase of their relationship, the couple faced much trolling due to the major age gap between them. To which, her response was “Anything that’s not common in a society, people usually like to talk about it. It’s not just limited to India. We as a species have the tendency to get weird about the unknown, the unexpected, AKA fear."

Konwar had reportedly met Soman when she was just recovering from the shocking death of her boyfriend. In 2018, they decided to tie the knot in an intimate wedding ceremony in Alibaug. She was 26 then.

Konwar is also known as Sunkusmita Konwar and has previously worked as a senior flight attendant. She is also a sports enthusiast who completed her first 10k marathon with Soman in 2015. According to reports, Konwar is an avid traveller and calls herself an ''art freak''. She also enjoys reading, watching movies and swimming and can speak several languages.

The duo enjoys running and working out together and they celebrated their third wedding anniversary on July 12. Konwar often motivates her fans to get in shape through her posts on Instagram. A few months back, she stressed the importance of being grateful to our bodies, especially amid the times of the novel coronavirus pandemic. She also requested her fans to stop looking for flaws and appreciate themselves.
