In the upcoming by-poll elections to Lok Sabha, the Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to let the Member of Legislative Assembly Agnimitra Paul fight electorally against Trinamool Congress's candidate and actor Shatrughan Sinha from Asansol constituency in West Bengal. This announcement was made by the BJP on March 18.
Along with the announcement for the Asansol seat, the party also announced the candidate for the Ballygunge seat in Kolkata. The party announced the name of Keya Ghosh, who is a known face from television debates and the women's wing leader for the party in the state. She will be fighting against the former BJP state candidate Babul Supriyo and CPI (M)'s Saira Shah Halim, who is the niece of the actor Naseeruddin Shah and a social activist herself.
These names of the candidates were announced by the central leadership of the BJP, shared the BJP West Bengal Spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya to the news media agency. The by-polls in the state will be held on April 12 and the counting of the votes will be done on April 16.

Who Is Agnimitra Paul?
Despite the TMC winning the state elections and forming the government with a majority number of seats in their tally, the seat to State Assembly from Asansol South in Paschim Bardhaman district was won by Agnimitra Paul last year. She represented BJP.
This year, she will be fighting for the assembly seat against Sinha, who has been chosen by the Chief Minister of Bengal Mamata Banerjee to cater to the Hindi-speaking population living in the industrial city and CPI (M)'s candidate Partha Mukherjee.
Apart from winning the seat to the state assembly, Paul was also the President of the BJP Mahila Morcha for the West Bengal unit. Before joining politics, she was a fashion designer, based in Kolkata and has designed costumes for Bollywood films like Koi Mere Dil Se Pooche and Via Darjeeling.
She has also designed wardrobes for actors like Sridevi, Esha Deol, Shonal Rawat, amongst others. She started her own fashion label called Inga.
