Who Is Aditi Balan? A Look At Her Career
Balan, 30, is known for films in the Malayalam and Tamil film industries. A lawyer by education, she stepped into films "by chance," she says. Her breakthrough role came with the 2017 film Aruvi, in which she played the namesake lead.
Aruvi, one of the biggest Tamil films of that year, comprised strong commentary about misogyny in society and profound themes of existentialism. For her role, Balan won a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress (South).
Talking about her big break, Balan told Firstpost, "I never dreamt I'd become an actor; everything came by chance. Just like any other movie buff, I’m a huge fan of watching emotional dramas. Post my law degree, I took a workshop session to gain theater experience and did a couple of plays. A friend from the theater suggested I attend the audition of Aruvi and within a few days, they conducted the test shoot and signed me for the role."
Aruvi however was not her first film appearance. In 2015, Balan had an uncredited role in Yennai Arindhaal.
Her last release was Kutty Story, an anthology of four shorts released in February this year. She starred in Aadal Paadal as a wife suspicious her husband was having an extramarital affair.
Among her most anticipated forthcoming releases are the Mani Ratnam-directed anthology Navarasa and Telugu mythological drama Shaakuntalam.
