Abhilasha Barak, the 26-year-old army official writes history by becoming the First Female Combat Aviator in the Indian Army. Hailing from Haryana, Abhilasha has excelled in every field she worked till date. Here's a look at her journey.
Abhilasha Barak is 'In Stride With The Future' as she will forever be remembered as the first woman to join the Indian Army as a Combat Aviator. Donning the Coveted Wings, the 26-year-old was felicitated at the Combat Army Aviation Training School, Nashik along with 36 Army pilots.
The official Twitter account of the Additional Directorate General of Public Information made a post on May 25, 2022, to congratulate the First Female Combat Aviator of the Indian Army as it further read, "Young Aviators are now ready to spread their wings in Combat Aviation Squadrons,". Let's have a look at her life before she achieved such a milestone in her life.
Who Is Abhilasha Barak?
Abhilasha completed her schooling at The Lawrence School situated in Sanawar, Himachal Pradesh. She hails from Haryana and her father is a retired colonel in the army, Col S Om Singh. The desire to join the armed forces ignited in her heart in 2013 when she saw her brother at Indian Military Academy's passing out parade.
Abhilasha went on to pursue an Electronics and Communications Engineering degree and in 2016 completed her Bachelor in Technology from Delhi Technological University. After her graduation, she received a placement opportunity at Deloitte, USA.
In 2018, from Officers Training Academy in Chennai, Captain Abhilasha Barak was commissioned into the Indian Army. She was selected as the Contingent Commander for Presentation of Colours to Army Air Defence by President Ram Nath Govind during her attachment with the Army Air Defence Corps.
An excellent achiever during her training days, Abhilasha got great scores during her training, including an A grade in the course of Army Air Defence Young Officers and smashed the Air Traffic Management and Air Laws by securing 75.50 % in the course.
Another example of her great talent, she passed Part B which is the promotional examination on her first attempt. With such a driven will and skills, Abhilasha was truly born to shine as she paved the way by becoming the first female to grace those Coveted Wings.
