Where to watch Meenakshi Sundareshwar:  After a long time, Bollywood has promised its viewers a romantic-comedy that seems to be suited to modern sensibilities. Starring Sanya Malhotra and Abhimanyu Dassani, Meenakshi Sundareshwar is set for a Diwali release.

Back by Karan Johar's Dharmatic Entertainment, the rom-com has been directed by Vivek Soni. Theatres across the country have opened their doors to viewers. In Delhi, cinemas can run at 100 percent capacity from November 1. After the second wave of COVID-19, films are making a gradual comeback to the silver screen with films like Bell Bottom and Thalaivi and the upcoming Sooryavanshi. However, many films are still slated for an OTT release, a trend that might not subside, even after the pandemic is gone.

OTT offers a space for filmmakers to explore unique and unconventional content, with subjects that might not lead to footfall in theatres. Is Meenashiki Sundareshwar's release on OTT due to the pandemic or was it cut out for OTT from the word go? This remains unclear.

However, the film does hold the potential to fill up the vacuum of feel good romantic films that seem to have vanished from the Bollywood landscape altogether. How bad are things? In 2021, the most talked about cinematic love story came from a war film named Shershaah, barely making up for 20 to 30 minutes of its total run time.

What is Meenakshi Sundareshwar about?

Meenakshi Sundareshwar is about a newly married couple who have to live away from each other due to their jobs. While Sundareshwar chooses a private job over his family business, Meenakshi works at a small business in Madurai where she intends to make a big difference. Sundareshwar eventually has to move to Bengaluru, sans his wife and this puts a strain on the marriage of this young couple. Will they manage to overcome the void created by physical distance or will it eventually cost them their marriage?

The film will be streaming exclusively on Netflix. Anyone with a valid subscription to the platform can watch it after its premiere.
