The trailer of the upcoming thriller series Mai was released on Friday. The show revolves around a mother trying to decode the reason behind the death of her specially-abled daughter while juggling with the emotional stress of losing her. Mai features popular television actor Sakshi Tanwar in the lead.
In the two minutes ten seconds long trailer, the series begins with a grim light and as seconds pass, the frame and the characters turn fiercer. It begins with a worried mother and 47-year-old housewife, played by Tanwar, asking her daughter, “Gudiya, kya hua hai (Sweetie, what happened)? Hum sab thik kardenge (We will make everything okay).”
However, in a matter of seconds, her daughter is crushed by a truck. Initially, everything is taken as an accident but as the plot progresses and secrets start pouring in, the reality seems far different.

The trailer shows the transition of Tanwar, from a docile mother and wife to a woman passed by vengeance, willing to go to any lengths in order to bring justice to her daughter. Tanwar’s character is shown fighting for her daughter while also encountering casual stereotyping of her as an acche ghar ke woman. There is a scene, wherein, Tanwar is shown interacting with a police officer, but he dismissively tells her not to get involved–not because the case is dangerous or there will be security issues, adding, “You are a woman from a well-to-do home, why are you getting yourself involved in this situation.”
Mai has been created by Atul Mongia, who has also co-directed the series alongside Anshai Lal and Mongia. Apart from Tanwar, the cast of Mai consists of actors like Raima Sen and Wamiqa Gabbi.
The thriller series has been produced by Clean Slate Filmz, which helmed by Karnesh Ssharma, brother of actor Anushka Sharma. Last year, while announcing the project, Anushka Sharma had posted on her Instagram, “Oh, Mai! What happens when a docile, 47-year-old-wife-and-mother finds herself accidentally sucked into a rabbit hole of violence and power? WE WILL FIND OUT SOON.”
