Vidya Balan role in Sherni: This week, a forest-thriller film Sherni will have a premiere on June 18 on an OTT platform. The film will see actor Vidya Balan in the lead role and fans expect to seethe actor in a never-before seen avatar in the film. Her character Vidya Vincent, a forest officer, powers through a hostile environment and strives to solve a man-animal conflict. But what make this role tick for Vidya Balan? What made her greenlight the project?
During a virtual press conference of Sherni, giving insights into her character and how her role is about celebrating every woman, the National Award-winning actor said, “You don't need to roar to be a tigress. There are various shades, reflections of 'sherni' (tigress) that each of us represents." She further reflected that her character is a "woman of few words" who is reserved but strong-willed. "So you can be that,” said the actor who always chooses to do films that are based on stories of women from different walks of life. More here.
Choosing female-centric stories
Balan further says her character Vidya Vincent wants her work to speak for her, just like any other woman smashing the patriarchy in any circumstances. "You don't have to scream out loud from the rooftops to be heard all the time or even be visible all the time," Balan says she wants to do work that leaves an impact on the society. "In each of the households in India, there's a 'sherni' and a lot of times she's invisible. This is my salute to all of them out there," she told PTI.

Who is the real 'Sherni' of Vidya Balan's life?
She also termed her mother as “the Sherni" of her life. She explained how her mother has been a home-maker throughout her life but she is her own person and how much Balan actually admires her. She says her mother is always learning and inspiring her along the way. "She is in her 60s and she is doing things she has never done before whether it’s learning dance or three different types of music," she added. Balan says her mother had told her not to be apologetic about her success and never bow down in front of anyone. "So, I think my mother is the most powerful Sherni in my life," the actor lamented.

Directed by Amit Masurkar, Sherni features actors like Neeraj Kabi, Ila Arun, Brijendra Kala, Sharat Saxena and Vijay Raaz apart from Balan. The film will start streaming from June 18 on Prime Video. Anyone with a subscription of the OTT platform will be able to stream it.
