The fourth season's events take place eight months after the third season's climax when inexplicable deaths linked to the Upside Down instill panic among Hawkins' residents.

Along with Cara Buono, Brett Gelman, Natalia Dyer, Joe Keery, Charlie Heaton, Sadie Sink, Maya Hawke, and Priah Ferguson, the current primary characters of the show are Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, and Gaten Matarazzo. The new actors who debuted in season 4 included Robert Englund, Jamie Campbell Bower, Eduardo Franco, Joseph Quinn, Sherman Augustus, Mason Dye, Nikola Djuricko, Tom Wlaschiha, Myles Truitt, Regina Ting Chen, Grace Van Dien, and Amybeth McNulty.

Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 2 will be made available on Netflix on Friday, July 1 at 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. The first episode, which will be chapter eight of Season 4, Papa, and the second chapter, which will be chapter nine, The Piggyback, are the titles of two episodes in Volume 2. Matt and Ross Duffer did the writing and directing for the episodes. It's likely that Volume 2 will offer some resolution and set the tone for the upcoming fifth season of the show.
