Priyanka Chopra's homeware and decor brand 'The Sona Home Collection' has come under the spotlight for being overpriced. "Is anyone going to buy this'? ask the netizens after learning the price of everyday items in the collection.
Priyanka Chopra recently launched a homeware brand 'The Sona Home Collection' with items ranging from dinnerware, linens, and bar items to decor and gifts. As an ode to the rich Indian culture and its representation in the American culture, Priyanka with her business partner Maneesh Goyal launched this collection. Chopra in an interview said, “I wanted to see the luxury of India that I grew up with, and that I’ve seen in my travels.”
Sharing the launch on Instagram, Priyanka captioned the post "Launch day is here! I couldn’t be more proud to introduce you all to SONA HOME. I bring a piece of India into everything I do and this is an extension of that thought. It's awesome to be working alongside @maneeshkgoyal and our entire team in creating something so dear to our hearts and heritage. Indian culture is known for its hospitality, it’s all about community and bringing people together. And for me, that is the ethos of SONA HOME. From our table to yours, we hope that you experience our same love for hosting, community, family, and culture in your home."
The Sona Home Collection Overpriced?
While the Sona Home brand is being praised by fellow celebrities and netizens for its aesthetics and beautiful amalgamation and representation of Indian culture, the brand has also come under the critical eyes of the netizens for its pricing. The Sona Home website has two divisions - ‘Sultan’s Garden’ and ‘The Panna Collection’. With mundane everyday things like a mug for 44$ ( Rs. 3,475), and tablecloths $298 ( Rs. 23,534) netizens have called the brand overpriced.
While people are excited about the Indian culture getting the recognition it deserves people are also calling out the brand for its pricing. On the Reddit, there is a whole thread of people are discussing the launch and the pricing and comments like - “We have gone from foreigners ripping off people by exoticising Indian culture and selling things at ludicrous prices to Indians ripping off people by exoticising Indian culture and selling things at ludicrous prices,” have surfaced.
'Is anyone going to buy this'? is the question on everyone's minds after just one look at the website. From launching an Indian restaurant to an Indian culture-inspired homeware brand, Priyanka Chopra is putting her entrepreneurial roots in America. While she is being lauded and appreciated for her efforts, the overpricing of the brand has put off netizens.
