Actor Alia Bhatt received widespread acclaim from all corners of the country for her stellar performance as Gangubai in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's directorial Gangubai Kathiawadi—which is based on journalist Hussain Zaidi’s book—after the film was released in February this year.
The premiered digitally on the streaming platform Netflix and now is receiving international acclaim.
Bhatt’s fashion choices have started a new trend in India and now across the globe. People cannot get enough of Alia Bhatt’s character and many have begun posting photos and videos of them lip-syncing to her dialogues, dancing to the film’s soundtrack or dressing up as her.
Thai Elderly Woman Recreates Alia Bhatt Look
However, the popularity the film gained in Thailand is astounding. Such is the craze that an elderly woman also took part in the trend and recreated Alia’s look.
The elderly woman known as Grandma Hongthong on Instagram recently posted a video of her in a black top and a red skirt recreating a scene from the film where Gangubai is made to take up the life of a sex worker.
The video garnered a lot of traction and the film’s leading lady, Alia, herself had shared it in her stories. She has also recreated Bhatt’s iconic all-white outfit look. She was seen dressed in an all-white outfit, a red bindi, a nose pin similar to the actor’s and completed the look with dark sunglasses.
Grandma Hongthing shared all her posts recreating the first look with a Thai caption. She shared photos in an all-white outfit with the caption, “Thank you very much!” And also, had tagged the account of the actor.
Her posts have been heaped with praises by Thai fans and Bollywood buffs. Many people have been leaving positive comments for the grandma. While one user wrote, “How wonderful you re-created this scene, love from India;” another wrote, “Grandma is a good actor and she is adorable.”
The page which sells shows online has many posts of the grandma in stylish outfits and recreating iconic looks of the pop-culture. She has more than 11,000 followers on Instagram.
Gangubai Kathiawadi has featured in the Top 10 Films across 25 countries across the world on Netflix including Canada, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and UAE.
