Taapsee Pannu's Shabaash Mithu To Release On OTT, Read Details

The sports drama Shabaash Mithu, which stars Taapsee Pannu and is based on the life of Indian cricketer Mithali Raj, will now make its OTT debut, the streaming giant revealed Tuesday. The film depicts Raj's life in all of its highs and lows.

The film, which has been directed by Srijit Mukherji and features a story written by Priya Aven, about women's cricket in India as it was witnessed by Mithali Raj, the most successful female cricketer and former captain of the Indian women's team, who recently announced her retirement from international competition.

Along with Pannu the film also stars Mumtaz Sorcar, Vijay Raaz, Inayat Verma, Brijendra Kala, Devadarshini, Swayam Joshi, Sameer Dharmadhikari, Aditi Aryan, Nirali Oza, Priya Kumari, and many others. It was produced by Viacom18 Studios and Colosceum Media.

The movie was released in theaters on July 15. Overall, moviegoers in cinemas had mixed feelings about the film. Others noted how the film started out well but lost its flow in the second half, while others applauded Taapsee Pannu's acting and the story's concept. The audience was entertained, though, and it had a great climax.

For those who missed the film in theaters, you can watch it now on your laptop or mobile screen at home. The OTT platform revealed that it has acquired the film's OTT rights and will soon release the film.

Taapsee Pannu, expressed her excitement for the film's digital distribution and anticipation for the audience's response.  She said, "I am extremely happy about its debut on OTT because it will give this story the chance to reach a much larger audience and, maybe, encourage other young women and girls to pursue their sporting ambitions with a determination that is comparable to Mithali Raj, the famous cricketer of India."

Shabaash Mithu OTT Release Date:

Shabaash Mithu will make its OTT platform debut on Voot Select and Netflix as well. The film will reportedly be released on August 11 on both platforms. Although Voot Select hasn't made an official announcement about the official release date, there is a good chance it will also release the movie on that day. In addition to Hindi, the film will also be available in Tamil and Telugu for streaming.
