All hell broke loose when former IPL chairman Lalit Modi recently revealed through a tweet that he and the former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen were in a relationship. Modi had shared the news with pictures of himself and Sen on vacation and while some congratulated the couple, some called her a “gold digger”.

Lalit Modi is a businessman and the founder of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, some social media users shamed him for his looks, claiming that Sen was only dating him for his money. The regressive commentary on social media irked the Aarya actor. She took to Twitter and shared an article by SheThePeople titled which called out the problematic culture of calling women gold diggers and wrote “#ASelfMadeWoman” in the caption.

- After his initial tweet sparked rumours that the two had married since he referred to Sen as his "better half", Modi clarified that the couple was dating, however, marriage was not entirely off the cards.
- On her Instagram account, Sushmita Sen lashed out at those who called her a gold digger in her post. She said it was “heartbreaking to see how miserable and unhappy the world around us is becoming”.
