Sushmita Sen Shares Pictures Wearing Manipur's Traditional Headgear

Actor Sushmita Sen recently shared a picture of herself wearing Kajenglei, Manipur's traditional headgear. The actor is in Manipur to attend the 2022 edition of the tourism festival of Manipur as a guest and will also be performing at the event.

Sushmita Sen is in Manipur for the 11th edition of the Sangai Festival which she will be attending as a performer and guest. Miss Universe 1994 walked the ramp for designer Robert Naorem on November 30 and will be the showstopper for the closing ceremony of the Manipur tourism festival 2022. The festival held its opening ceremony on November 21 in Bishnupur district's Moirang Khunou. The actor shared a picture of her from Manipur where she can be seen flaunting the traditional clothing of the state.

Sushmita Sen In Manipur

In the picture Sen shared on her Instagram, she can be seen wearing a Kajenglei, which is Manipuri traditional headgear, and a handwoven maroon-coloured traditional woollen shawl. Kajenglei, also known as Leitreng, is a headgear usually worn by female Manipuri royalties, brides, goddesses and dancers. The headgear holds a special place in Manipuri traditions and is made up of eighty to a hundred brass strips and is made from a commonly found plant in hilly regions of Manipur called Khekwai. Sushmita Sen is reportedly at the festival to support weaves and weavers of Manipur. She said that she was there to represent and extend her support to the handlooms and textiles of Manipur by wearing their creations. She said that she hoped that her presence and support will help in creating a deeper connection between the weavers and the rest of the nation.

Apart from Sushmita Sen, Miss Universe 2000 Lara Dutta and actor Nargis Fakhri also attended the Sangai Festival 2022. While Dutta was the showstopper for designer Robert Naorem on Sunday, Fakhri walked the ramp for Kumarjit Laishram at the opening ceremony of the festival.
